The two suffer the misfortune of arriving at the same time as a great flood that inundated the city.
Based on historical fact, this fiction novel is aimed at readers aged 12 and up. It gives an encouraging message about the perseverance of the pioneers and miners in the Golden State. It chronicles the story of a young woman determined to become a doctor at a time in history when the medical profession was entirely male dominated.
